Discovery:

 

Mars was known of as far back as ancient egyptian times(2).

 

Origin/Description of name:

 

Mars was named after the Roman God of War, Mars.(3)

Mars is also the Roman God of Agriculture(3).

 

Size:

 

 The diameter of Mars is 6,794 km, and the mass of Mars is 6.4219e23 kg.(3)

 

The orbit of Mars is 227,940,000 km from the sun (3).

 

Temperature:

 

    The surface temperature of Mars can range from -67 degrees farenheit to 30 degrees farenheit. However, on the polar ice caps, the temperature can go as low as -200 degrees farenheit.

 

Notable Features:

 

    Mars has two polar ice caps, which lead scientists to believe that Mars was once habitable. Scientist have found trace forms of life, so they believe that there also was life on Mars, a.k.a. Martians.

 

    The Planet Marsalso has an extremely large dormant volcano named Olympus Mons, with an elevation of 69,480 meters.(1)
