Himalia
(Zak Attack)

- Himalia's first proven sighting was in December of 2000. found in many angle images taken around that time. these pictures were taken 4.4 million kilometers from the planet
Jupiter.
Scientist created a space craft (Galilleo) launched out to space on October 19, 1989. His major reason for this was to explor the jovian system a little more detailed than the attempt in 1979-1980. This expedition ended September 21, 2003. It was a huge success. because of the time it took. it was supposed to take about two years for it to orbit Jupiter threw the whole mission.
Io (one of jupiters most spectacular moons) is the most volcanic body known, with lava flows, lava lakes, and giant calderas covering its sulfurous landscape. Io orbits closer to Jupiter's cloud tops than the moon does to Earth.
- One of Jupiters 63 moons.
- Himalia ("hih MAL yuh") is the tenth of Jupiter's known satellites:
- It is also know to be one of the moons that gives of the most light out of the other moons jupiter has orbiting around it
- Himalia's Diameter is 186 km
- Himalia's Mass is 9.56e18 kg
- In mythology Himalia gave birth to three of Zeus's sons.
- Himalia was dicovered by Charles Perrine in 1904. this argentine-american dicoverer also found one of Jupiters other moons. Elara
- Different to the inner planets orbit. Leda, Himalia, Lythithea and Elara have a large incline on jupiter. around 28 degrees
- Himalia is known to be created by the gravitational force produced by Jupiter
- Some notible features are Himalia's orbit is very close to planet Jupiter. Approx.-11,480,000 km, one of jupiters closest moons.
