Ananke

by Josh Farber

The planet Jupiter has many moons.  "Ananke" is just one of 63 so far, and is Jupiters

13th moon.

-----------------------------------------Discovery-------------------

It was discovered in 1951 by Seth Nicholson.

----------------------------------------Size---------------------------

It is approxamately 12 1/2 miles in diameter

----------------------------------------Orbit--------------------------

It orbits an average of 21,200,000 miles from Jupiter, and takes 631 Earth days to make a

complete retrograde Orbit. (meaning it orbits in the oppisite direction of Jupiter)

---------------------------------------Structure and Comosition---------------

This moon has a mass of 4x10 to the 16th power, but not much is known about what it is made of.

--------------------------------------What is Ananke like compared to

another moon of Jupiter, such as Io?----------------

  Ananke Io
Who discovered it? Seth Nicholson Galileo Galilei
When was it discovered? 1951 1610
Orbit distance (average) 21.2 million km 422,000 km
What is the mass? 40,000,000,000,000,000 kg 89,316,000,000,000,000,000,000 kg

--------------------------------------- Cool facts--------------------------------

Ananke is too faint to be viewed in most telescopes.

  • Ananke is one of five moons to orbit Jupiter in retrograde (meaning it orbits in the oppisite direction of Jupiter)
  • The other moons to orbit in retrograde are Carme, Pasiphae, Sinope, and S/1999 J 1

1- This is a picture of Jupiter and its larger moons.  Ananke may be one of those smaller ones, or it may be too small to be in that picture!

2- As you can see, Ananke is a veryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy small moon.  You can see it in front of the yellow arrow (the faint speck)

3- A close up af Ananke

Moon Io flying above of  Planet Jupiter

There were no videos for Ananke, but these were cool, and were the best I could find.  The first is of the Atmosphere on Europa, another moon of Jupiter.

Below is a video that shows the moon Io orbiting Jupiter

Anna Compere:Josh- this page is absolutely chock-full of information, which is great!! for such a small moon, you've really done a great job finding so many facts. i know some things are really hard to find, but here are some things more items that you should include if you can find info about them (making things up is a big no-no): composition. i know you've already talked a little about this, but what is Ananke made of? Mythology, description of name- what's the story behind the naming of Ananke? does it go along with an ancient myth of some sort? other than that, you've covered basically everything else. you've done a really nice job organizing your info and citing your sources, your bibliography looks great. it's a little cluttered though. i think you should put more space in between your facts, that way they'll be easier to read. lastly, i don't think you need two videos- one is enough, especially if they're not about your moon. Over all, i think this is a really great page, you've obviously put a lot of effort into it, and it's very informative. Great job!
    John Meade:nice work Mr. Potter
chris mehuron:nice i think color would make it better. i think you whould have just one vide
